The Vision
SmartFactoryKL - the intelligent industrial plant of the future: Modifiable and expandable (flexible), it links any number of components from different suppliers (networked), enables the independent execution of contextual tasks by components (self-organizing), and emphasizes the user friendliness of the systems (user-oriented).
The Beginning
The SmartFactoryKL project was established on June 3, 2005, being initiated by partners from industry and research. The sponsor organization has the aim of promoting the development, use, and spread of innovative, industrial plant technologies throughout the various sectors of the economy and to create a basis for their broad use throughout the scientific and business communities. SmartFactoryKL thus became the first European, supplier-neutral, demo-factory for the industrial application of modern information technologies. The partners are expected to set detailed courses of action for the individual development clusters during subject specific workshops to be convened in the near future.
